The Senior Citizen Nursing Home - 1493 Words

The Senior Citizen Nursing Home that I view is called â€Å"Liberty House Nursing Home.† The Nursing Home is located 620 Montgomery St, Jersey City. The Home have 5 floors, 180 beds and they have a median size area on each floor for the people that live there can hang out to watch TV and talk to each and play little games. They also have a roof display where the people can go to but they can only go there with their visitors or guest and only for a few hours. The home had a parking lot but it was only for employs and visitor had to park in the street. In front of the home there are pay mentor so visitor had to pay for two hour and then leave so they would not get a ticket on their car. She when started to live there she was lonely and felt weak at first because before the stroke she wa s independent and she always around her family. However, after being put into the home she felt lonely because her family was not with her and she felt weak because her need people to help. The staff there help her get up every day and they also help feed her when it is needed. In the home, she may feel lonely but she does have a boyfriend in the home. After hearing this I was so surprise because she is in the home for rehabilitation not for love. However, this tell me that anything can happen in a nursing home. Her boyfriend keep her company and so do her doll Louis. She named her doll after her son Louis who is also in another nursing home. Louis was in a nursing because he has HIV and need 24/4-hour care just like his mother. She wanted to stay close with her son who she could not see so she created a doll that look like him and she never separate from him. When the dolls go missing she starts screaming and crying for her doll and the nurse must look everywhere for the doll are she will not calm down. People who support this theory seems to believe that men and women are happier when fulfilling the roles nature determined for them. Women are to be nurturing and men are to be providers by nature. An individual gender role is molded through socialization. Individuals learn the ways, traditions, norms, and rules of getting along with others. A person environment has a big influence on the roles deemed accurately for men and women. Parents, media, teachers, and peers are important socializing agents for teaching the young their gender roles. Children are viewed through Gender-Colored glasses by their parents that focus on gender differences that do not exist. Meaning that a glass is clear and depending upon what you want to see through it is what you will see through it. Most children are raised with the belief that girls are pretty in pink and boys are rough and tough in blue.As infants grow older, their parents notions about gender stereotypes continue to influence how parents treat their children. Most teenagers strive for more acceptance and approval from their friends than they do for that of their own families. Through friends children learn that others share problems, conflicts, and complex feelings, and this may be helpful for each individuals to express how they feel. One of the first impressions with adolescence is the similarity in dress and behavior. Young people generally dress to impress their friend. Inte raction that takes place at this time helps reinforce their conceptions of gender roles. Girls look at their mothers and assume that being a lady is wearing dresses to be femine. But on the hand boys usually like to wear comfortable clothes so they can get dirty and play rough. Many times boys feel that dress clothes is uncomfortable. The differential in roles on the basis of sex is probably the most determinant of social behavior. Students self-consciously see themselves and define their roles by their teachers expectations and behavior. Teachers treat genders differently. For instance, when girls need help the teacher often required that the girls come to them, which increased the girls dependency on adults. Furthermore, girls do not have problems with asking for help because they have been molded to rely on others, but men who are viewed as so superior will tend not to ask questions because they are to be inflexible and strong. One of the most important features of our lives is gender roles and norms. It is important because females were once looked at to have children and to get married in order to fulfill herself as a female. On the other hand, males should be aggressive and successful when needed in a situation, and be self-reliant and tough. By this a child can develop how he/she follows rules and regulations or how they unify with society. When a person learns how he/she should behave in society and accepts it, then they can be rewarded by positive approval, acceptance, and admiration. When one has a particular role he/she have certain privileges and obligations associated with that particular role. The roles of men and women and the social rules that dictate appropriate behavior for each are not shaped by biology itself. The Carolingian art had different monastic centers throughout the Carolingian Empire which were known as ateliers. That was the state of manuscripts during the Middle Ages, but great changes occurred towards the fabrication of manuscripts during Romanesque period. This tendency grew into the Gothic period where there were bigger image sizes but at least one if not many decorations around the page. An artist had their own unique skill that they used when working on a certain piece of an image. A standardized form of Latin, which originated from Classical Latin, was used in the texts along with new formed words. Medieval Latin was most used in that time and was a common language used by the people of Europe. In fact, this language was commonly used by businessmen and scholars for communication, learning and administration purposes. The texts were usually incorporated first when it came to constructing an illuminated manuscript. Script depended on the style that were currently being used in society and the one that were most popular. Scripts such as Uncial and half-Uncial were introduced because of the ongoing development and usage of unique texts such as insular miniscule and insular majuscule. Before these texts were established, the Roman letters were used during the Middle Ages. Around the 13th century, black thick and solid letters were shown and it was made more in style around the Middle Ages. Around the 9th century, rooms made solely for writing became extremely popular and were apart of most monasteries. This room was called a scriptoria and it was there were most books were copied. This was a brutal job and it was shown through the hard work done by the monks. The process included the need to check for mistakes and to correct errors that have been made through the years. This old writing style was the old un-spaced Roman capital script called â€Å"uncial†. Charlemagnes brilliant idea worked as it made copying and reading easier for everyone. This style of writing is called the â€Å"Carolingian Miniscule† and is still currently being used today. Unlike the older style, this new one had a separation between words and there was evident use of punctuations in the text. Charlemagne also made standards for Medieval Latin because there were evident changes in the Latin language during the last couple of decades. Different expressions, new phrases and words were developed and integrated into the language. Composing a manuscript included the copying of an old piece of literature, having a decorated picture and possessing fancy capital letters. This act was seen as a great accomplishment at that period. The sacred scripture and writings of the bible were transformed and transfigured into many different forms. Most ministers were illiterate and people who were not from the ordained clergy did not have access to these sacred texts. Charlemagne disliked oblivious priests who could not read nor comprehend their own scriptures. The Carolingian miniscule comprised of letters that possessed â€Å"the most decorative flourishes and the system of ligatures was eliminated.† As this style of writing dispersed into England during the 10th century and in Spain in the following century, Carolingian miniscule reformed to being the â€Å"written language of oppression and religious orthodoxy†. It established itself as the official script and literary hand and style of the Frankish region. Later on, scripts such as the ones of â€Å"Gothic†, â€Å"Roman† and â€Å"Humanists† preceded in time and thus making this script most commonly used today. Thus, Charlemagne took all these differences and transformations and added them to the new scholarly language which is known as Medieval Latin. Time is an important component of life and so we feel better about our lives when we have the ability to control our time. Conversely, feeling that were running out of time can create an overall feeling that we arent good in some part of life. Those who are genuinely successful are aware that time management is a crucial skill they have to get good at. It could be the one determining factor that lets you live in the moment and appreciate your life instead of feeling that time is a merciless boss (Marie, 2012). Time management is very significant in our present times, even more so than in previous decades. Existing technology allows us to do things faster than before and yet we feel forced to continually increase the pace. As an example, we continue to have difficulty keeping track of the large number of available information even with computers and other gadgets that are extremely powerful. Time management is the component that can give us a sense of control over time so we can quit rushing and loosen up (Marie, 2012).

Dante’s   Paradiso In spite of all the sheer effort put behind it, Dante’s Paradiso is not easy to enjoy. It is an alliance between difficulty and controversy. It is a narration of Dante’s so called visit to heaven, which seems tangible to no one but him. He slowly gives us his perceived account while inserting an archive of philosophical tidbits, which often divert the reader’s attention from the supposed plot. Dante claims himself gifted and says that all his said experiences are ones that he encountered first-hand. And so the reader is assumed to believe that the author is not in a make-believe world and his arguments with heavenly beings are actually marvelous adventures. The theme is not relevant at all to the present, as scholars today would say that his ideas are primitive and unsubstantial. The only thing applicable to today be the fact that it is based on the timeless issue: the afterlife. And as he inserts his personal views in life, he does it in an authoritative method as his heavenly friends explain them to him. Now if the reader assumes this is all make-believe, it is tiresome to go on as the book is direly detailed. On the other hand, if the reader believes Dante’s account, then I am afraid he is very misled. As many biblical verses are inserted in the text, it is quite bothersome that his explanations and fabulous stories take on a less dogmatic direction. It doesn’t seem right to quote religion to serve both misinterpreted purposes and claims to a divine philosophy. This dissenting view is the only social impact I can make out of the book. As I read on the translated verses looking for some conflict or climax, I reached neither. It just seems as if this popularly supposed story is intended to be educational just like a textbook. Nevertheless, it is not hard to see why Paradiso was dubbed a masterpiece. If the title of "masterpiece" is labeled upon the works of great worth, I am afraid entertainment value is not somethi ng distinguishable in this case even if there is an undoubtedly enormous amount of effort, skill, and thought that was invested in it. All the lines rhyme in pairs, and are written in deep Spanish. A rhyme scheme is followed and even literary formality is observed. Dante is obviously intellectual, as his work shows.
